Bath Drama, celebrating its centenary year in 2019, was founded just after the First World War, has produced hundreds of shows since then, and is still thriving today. A registered charity, Bath Drama is run by a committee of volunteers, now led by Kirsty Woods, and produces three or four shows each year, mostly at The Rondo Theatre and hold their rehearsals at Bath Recreation Ground.

The annual panto in January is a long tradition, often featuring local authors like Steve Curtis and Gill Morrell. Recently we have had a live band each year under the inspired direction of Tim Barrett, and we always aim to entertain both young and old.

The spring and autumn productions have included Shakespeare, Ibsen and Chekhov, new writing, comedies, dramas, thrillers - whatever seems to offer quality entertainment for our audiences and interesting and stimulating challenges for our actors, directors and stage crew.

In the last few years, there have been summer workshops which have been a lot of fun and have attracted new members, and for several years Bath Drama joined with the Rondo Theatre Company to do outdoor shows for charity.

Our next show is already cast and ready to start rehearsals. Chosen because it was written by a Bath Drama member, Arnold Ridley of 'Dad's Army' fame, 'The Ghost Train' is a fantastic thriller, set in a Cornish railway station exactly one hundred years ago. The show will be at The Rondo from 8-11 May with a special Gala Night to celebrate our anniversary on the Saturday night.

In the autumn, there will be a modern Australian drama, 'Things I Know To Be True', with auditions on April 15 and 17 at the Pavilion.

Although Bath Drama shows are mostly at The Rondo Theatre in Larkhall, its home for many years was the old pavilion known as The Hut on the edge of the Bath Rec. This is now run by the Bath Recreation Ground Trust, who have refurbished the building. In the meantime, rehearsals were held in the spacious Pavilion, near the main entrance to the Rec, and this is where Bath Drama are happy to have been offered a future home.

New members are a very important part of Bath Drama, who pride themselves on holding truly open auditions. Once on the membership list, there are play readings, social events, and occasional workshops on offer throughout the year. We need actors, directors, stage crew, set builders, and potential committee members - especially someone with financial expertise to take over as treasurer in the near future. So, if you'd be interested in getting involved, just go to and follow the links to contact the group and to get onto the mailing list.
